History / Previous Identities:
1943: NAA started design of light-weight Mustang
195?: used as an avionics trainer, fuselage only - rest scrapped
1977: John Morgan, La Canada CA
NAA designed the XP-51G for lighter weight / higher performance. This is one of the light-weight P-51 prototypes. They never saw production.
Story is that this airframe was on its way (literally) to the scrap yard in 1977, when the truck was stopped on the highway by a friend of John Morgan. Great story.
This is a long-term restoration. The fuselage was cut off behind the canopy so it would fit better in the room it was stored. Many parts are not in existence for this type and must be made or converted from an H model (which has few parts available).
To many of us this a great piece of history, and it would be a real treat to see fly again.
